Nick Viall, shown on "Bachelor in Paradise," was "The Bachelor" on the ABC reality show in 2017.

Waukesha native Nick Viall will take the leadas ABC's next "Bachelor" after three stints on the reality TV dating franchise.

Starting in January, we'll watch as the 1999 Waukesha North High School graduate searches for a wife from a pool of 25 women on "The Bachelor." He'll hand out roses to the women he wants to stick around until the finale when he will, most likely, propose to one and hand out his final rose. Filming on the show begins in the coming weeks.

Viall, now 35, appeared on Andi Dorfman's season of "The Bachelorette" in summer 2014 and Kaitlyn Bristowe's season of that show a year later. In both instances, he was sent home as the runner-up during the series finale. This summer, he appeared on the ABC spin-off "Bachelor in Paradise."

During the announcement on ABC's "Bachelor in Paradise" after-show Tuesday night, Viall said he's both nervous and excited about his new quest for love.

"I certainly have the practice," he said referring to his previous appearances on the franchise.

7 things to know about Waukesha 'Bachelorette' contestant Nick Viall

Viall is the second oldest of 11 children. After graduating from Waukesha North High School, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He ran track in both high school and college. In 1999, he won state in the 800-meter run at the WIAA Track and Field Championship. At UWM, he served as team captain and set a school record for the 3,200-meter relay.

During his first appearance on "The Bachelorette," Viall took Andi on a hometown date in Milwaukee. The pair visited Lakefront Brewery, drinking a special brew named "Nick and Andi" for them and dancing to the live polka music. He also gave the Bachelorette a taste of local cuisine, buying cheese curds at the Milwaukee Public Market. Viall introduced her to his family in Waukesha.

The show skipped hometown dates during Viall's second appearance on the show. Instead, the families met Bristowe in Utah. In most seasons, contestants don't visit the the bachelor's hometown, so don't expect a Milwaukee cameo this time.
